What is POE(Power over Ethernet)?

Power over Ethernet (PoE) is a networking feature defined by the IEEE 802.3af and 802.3at standards. PoE lets Ethernet cables supply power to network devices over the existing data connection.
PoE-capable devices can be power sourcing equipment (PSE), powered devices (PDs), or sometimes both. The device that transmits power is a PSE, while the device that is powered is a PD. Most PSEs are either network switches or PoE injectors intended for use with non-PoE switches. Common examples of PDs include VoIP phones, wireless access points, and IP cameras.
What are the benefits of PoE?

Because PoE allows you to use one cable for both power and data transmission, PoE saves you money on purchasing and running cable for networking equipment and VoIP phones.
PoE makes installing or expanding a network much simpler and cheaper in buildings where it is too expensive or inconvenient to install new power lines.
Using PoE lets you mount devices in places where it would be impractical to install power, such as drop ceilings.
Using PoE can reduce the number of cables and electrical outlets needed in a crowded equipment room or wiring closet.

How to choose the right video conference cameras or solutions for your demands?

Nowadays, people worldwide more and more use video conference for business, video communication has been widely used in our business and daily life. Truthfully, the video conference can save us time and money on communication, do you really know how to choose the right video conference cameras or solutions for your demands?
Here are three steps to help you choose the correct cameras for your video conference system. Here we go:

Step 1: Find out what your main purpose is to use the camera
Video conference cameras can be used for video business meeting, global video conference, remote education, telemedicine, live events, church events, broadcasting and so on.

1, Video conference: If you are going to use it in your conference room, then the first thing you need to consider is how big is your meeting room and how many people will attend the online meeting(you need to choose other related devices according to this).
For normal conference room, a fixed optical zoom camera or 10X or below 10X optical zoom camera is enough, USB output is ok as it is convenient and no driver needed, for example, our model JT-HD30DU or JT-HD90DU, They are all USB output, 1080p resolution, no noise pan tilt, JT-HD30DU is 10x optical zoom, JT-HD90DU has 3X and 10X optical zoom, all easy to use and suitable for the conference.
If your conference room is big, then you need to choose one more than 10X optical zoom, for example, 18X or 20X optical zoom.

2, Church live events: as the light in the church is complicated, it requires quality image sensor to capture the clear image in different light conditions, so the cameras with SONY image sensor and big optical zoom will be right choices, such as SONY 7310 or SONY 7500 image sensor with 20X or 30X optical zoom

3, Telemedicine: if you are going to use it to communication on the medical solution or medical conference, you can refer to the first one, if you are going to use it for remote surgery, then I suggest you go directly to the big brand company with really advanced technologies such as Sony, Huawei, as the remote surgery is about life, it requires very clear and stable cameras, also better with no delay on data transfer.

4, Broadcasting: If your broadcasting requires no delay on data transfer, I also suggest you go directly to the big brand company for solutions. If you don`t have a high standard on data transfer, then you can try with 20x or 30x optical zoom cameras with Sony image sensor, and you need to pay attention to the output interface to check if they can match with your other devices.
Here offer 4 solutions for your reference, If you need to know more solution suggestions, please contact me, I can help.

Step 2: Check the main factor that determines the quality of the cameras
The main factors determine the quality of a camera is stability, image effect, functions, and output interface, these depend on the image sensor, effect pixels, lens, signal system, resolution and so on, you can refer my another article here. https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/what-do-parameters-video-conference-cameras-mean-rick-fan/

Step 3: Choose a professional manufacturer or a brand to purchase
Video conference camera is the product with high technique, it is not a product that anyone can make, so ask yourself, how can a company make quality cameras with just 1-2 year experience? (Of course, this is not a must but a reference in the checklist) Choose a professional manufacturer or a brand company will save your time to choose and compare. A good manufacturer will discuss your real demand on cameras, then offer suitable solutions after understanding your demand, and they will also offer lifetime technical support and the good warranty, you can get what you need with assurance and time-saving.
The article ends, but learning never ends, welcome to share your experience and knowledge on choosing the right video conference cameras, I am always open to discuss. Also, if there are some mistakes in the article, please feel free to correct, it will be much appreciated. Thanks for your reading.

The 4 problems in the normal use of video conference cameras and solutions

The 4 problems in the normal use of video conference cameras and solutions:

1, No self-test or self-test with noise

First, check if the power cable is loose, it will cause no enough power for the camera if the cable is loose, for this case, you need to re-assemble or change the power cable. Second, if the power cable is ok, then it may be something goes wrong with the equipment inside the camera, for this situation, you need to contact your seller/manufacturer for checking.

2, No move or image after power on

For this issue, you just need to check if there is the power failure or if the power switch is good or if the power cable is assembled well, then you will find the solution.

3, The camera can`t be controlled by the remote

First, use the remote within 10meter away from the cameras, and direct to the camera better without anything between them

Second, Make sure the remote battery is good

Third, Check if the IR code in the remote is same with the IR code in the camera

If it is still not ok, just contact your supplier/manufacturer

4, The image is lost when the camera`s pan moves

This issue is normally caused by power failure or video cable problem, so check if the power cable and plug are well assembled and in good condition or change the video cable

These are 4 normal issues during the usage of video conference cameras, if you have any problems or need any technical support for your video conference, feel free to post here, I will do my best to help.

What do the parameters of video conference cameras mean?

Nowadays, video conference has become popular in our daily business meeting, it allows people worldwide to have a meeting without long travel and high expense.

Definitely, a good video conference cameras can make you a good video conference system, bring you great meeting experience. But how to choose a good video conference camera? Here we will introduce the main parameters of the video conference cameras for you. To understand the main parameters of the video conference cameras can offer a good reference when choosing your video conference solutions.

There is the image sensor, effective pixels, lens, horizontal view angle, signal system, resolution, minimum illumination, image effect, signal to noise ratio, preset position, output, and control protocol. Let check one by one.

Image sensor: the most used image sensors are CCD and CMOS, it is the most important part of video conference cameras as well as other cameras, without image sensor, the cameras will not able to capture the image. Normally, there are 1/2.8”, 1/1.8”, 1/2.5”, 1/3”, 1/4” image sensors, the bigger, the better. The brand image sensors are SONY, PANASONIC, SHARP, A1(L.G.), SONY is of the highest quality, but note: I AM NOT MEAN THAT THE CAMERAS ARE GOOD IF IT USE THE SONY IMAGE SENSOR, it actually depends on how good is the manufacturer.

Effective pixels: it is the real pixels that involved in image producing, the bigger, the better

Lens: it is a must part of cameras, the quality of lens affect the quality of the image. Here we need to consider the optical zoom of the lens based on your demands. The bigger of the optical zoom, the longer image you can capture.

Horizontal view angle: The bigger of the angle, the wider you can see, but it will be the close shot; The smaller of the angle, the more narrow you can see, but it will be the long shot.

Signal system: there are two main signal systems in the world, NTSC (National Television System Committee) and PAL (Phase Alternating Line), it is television broadcasting system, PAL is mainly used in Europe, China, Middle East, and Hong Kong, NTSC is mainly used in Japan, America, Mexico, Canada and so on, To use what kind of system depends on where you are and what your device support.

Resolution: normally we can see 1080P, 720p, 480p, these all refer to resolution, High definition means the resolution is more than 720p, or it is standard definition. The higher of the resolution, the more clear of the image.

Minimum illumination: illuminance is a way to measure the sensitivity of the cameras, it measures what the darkest condition is that the camera can capture images, use LUX as the measurement. The lower of the Lux, the darker that the cameras can work.

Image effect: it means what kind of image effect that the camera can support, normal options are color, Black and white, Electronic flip.

Signal to Noise ratio(S/N): Signal voltage and noise voltage ratio, noise includes power clutter, random clutter, single-frequency clutter and so on. The standard is 45-55 dB, for video conference cameras, if S/N is about 50db, it is good.

Preset Position: Preset position is very important in the meeting that gets the “big guy” involved or for the big conference or live show, it can allow you set up the position you want the camera to direct in advance.

Output: Normal output has HDMI, SDI, USB, VGA and VIDEO, it depends on your demand and the output interface of your current device.

Control Protocol: For video conference telecommunication, the control protocols are VISCA and PELCO P/D, they are standard protocol in this industry. And we often use RS232 control cable under VISCA, you only use series connection if want to use more than one cameras under VISCA, and the most you can connect is 7pcs cameras. But under PELCO P/D, you must use the parallel connection, there are no limits on the number of cameras you can connect, we use RS-422 OR RS485 cable, this cable can transfer information for thousand meters, but RS-232 cable only can transfer within 15 meters.

I believe you can choose the most suitable video conference cameras for your business now. If you have any further questions or find any errors, please feel free to contact, our professional engineers can offer free consultant for you.

Have you ever wanted to use monitor cameras as video conference cameras?

There is always a question from our customers–Can we use the monitor system to replace the video conference system? They just think the monitor system is much more normal in our daily life, but don`t know they are actually two things.

So, Can we use the monitor cameras to replace the video conference cameras in video meeting? The answer is NO.

Before we go to the similarities and difference between monitor system and video conferencing system, we need to know some conceptions.

1, What is video conference system?

Video conference system is a system using two-way interactive communication delivered by Internet technologies that allow people at different location to come together for a meeting

2, What is video monitor system?

Video monitor system consists of monitor cameras, data transmission, control, display, and record part. It allows the administration to accurately observe, check and study the monitored area, offering the real-time images for the secuirity system.

After knowing the basic definition, let`s see the similarities between the two systems:

  • Similar system structure:

Both of the two systems consist of audio and video acquisition equipment and class server equipment. For video conferencing, they are conference terminals and MCU (multipoint control unit) device; for video surveillance, is the camera and hard disk recorders (or PC server).

  • Same standards for video transmission and audio transmission:

Video conferencing systems and video surveillance systems are basically compressed video compression standard using MPEG4 or H264, and audio transmission is basically used g.279 or some of the higher compression audio compression coding

  • Same transmission medium

Video conferencing systems and monitoring systems are transmitted through the network, so the transmission medium is the same

What is the difference?

  • The equipment is different

For video conferencing, there must be video and voice acquisition systems, and integrated network components, audio, and video can be transmitted directly through the network, do not need to be stored; But video surveillance contains more equipment, audio capture is not necessary, but the storage part is a must.

  • Different usage

Both systems are created to meet different demands, which determines they are different. Video conference is to meet the demands of enterprises or companies to have a meeting with people in different places; video surveillance is to monitor the real-time status of security.

  • Different functions:

For video conferencing system, besides video real-time display, there are also interactive, training, voting and data transfer functions, such as transmitting a conference PPT to other meeting people; video surveillance need to achieve real-time video transmission, video storage, alarm processing, motion detection, and video playback at the same time.

  • Using in different place

Video conferencing equipment deploys the conference room with better conditions; but the deploying places for monitoring system equipment, especially the camera, are much more than video conference cameras, and the monitor cameras can still work at the outdoor harsh environment.

  • Different cost

The cost of Video conferencing system is much higher than monitor system.

If you want to know more about video conference system or need a solution for your video conference room, feel free to contact, I can help with this.

What is the difference between optical zoom and digital zoom?

Video cameras have become a normal thing in our daily life, but do you know there are optical zoom and digital zoom for cameras? And do you know the difference between them? Here is something you need to know.

Actually, the digital zoom is not a real zoom, the definition is that digital zoom is to use the processor of the camera to raise the pixel scale inside the image to get it enlarged. The principle is to use software to work out what the color is surrounding the existing pixels, then add the similar pixels by the special algorithm.

Advantages:

  • Low production cost (the camera price will be lower)
  • It can help the photographer to blur the background and achieve some article effect

Disadvantages:

  • Not the real zoom
  • The resolution and image quality will be damaged when using digital zoom, so the image will become blurry.

What about the optical zoom?

Optical zoom is to change the position of the lenses in the zoom lens to get the good focal length to enlarge the image. The principle is to enlarge the objects by changing the position of lens, objects and the focus. The bigger is the optical zoom, the longer you can photograph.

Advantages:

  • It is the real zoom
  • The image will keep high resolution and clear

Disadvantages:

  • The cost is higher than digital zoom as it is to zoom by the hardware device

(The image effect of optical zoom and digital zoom for your reference)

Today’s cameras all have optical zoom and digital zoom, if you are just daily use, normal cameras with small optical zoom are enough; if you want to photograph long distance objects, you need to take care of the optical zoom of the cameras. And for video conference cameras, you need to consider the optical zoom according to the scale of your conference room or your purpose to the use the conferencing cameras.

If you have any further questions or find any mistakes, please feel free to contact, I would be happy to discuss with you. Thanks for your reading and have a good day!
